Much of Burlington’s housing went up in the decades after World War II, when Route 128 opened and the town grew quickly. Many of those ranches, capes and split-levels still have their original backyards, and some have pools that are now well past their prime. Mountainscapes helps Burlington homeowners bring those spaces up to date: renovating older pools, adding a spa or water feature, replacing a cracked patio or rebuilding a worn-out lawn. If you only need a liner swapped or a single bed replanted, we are glad to take that on as well.
A fresh layout can make an older Burlington yard feel bigger. We look at how the pool, hardscaping, lawn and plantings connect, then rebuild the pieces that no longer fit how you use the space.
Older pools brought back into shape with updated surfaces, coping, decking and equipment.
A raised, heated spa that spills into the pool, added during a renovation or a new build.
Waterfalls, deck jets and bubblers that add sound and movement to a plain rectangular pool.
A new vinyl liner measured for your pool, with floor and wall repairs made underneath first.
Patios, walkways, steps and seating walls that replace cracked concrete and tired brick.
Wood or composite decks off the back of ranch and split-level homes, with railings and stairs down to the yard.
Old, patchy lawns stripped, regraded and replaced with fresh sod or seed on improved soil.
A new planting and layout plan that updates foundation beds and ties the yard together.
It only takes 30 seconds.

Chris installed a beautiful gunite pool for me. My kids love it and they cherish the day it gets opened. Chris did an amazing job designing the layout. He is a true artisan. I’ve been in business for 37 years and I’ve been around countless contractors. I highly recommend Mountainscapes.
I had the need for an emergency skimmer replacement during a pool deck replacement. Mountainscapes was the only company that got back to me and came right out and fixed things up to keep my project on schedule. Chris and his team were top notch. Highly recommended.
I have engaged Chris and his team on a number of landscape projects over the years. The pricing is good, the end result gorgeous, and Chris is always a pleasure to work with.
My experience having a pool installed was a great one! The owner Chris, worked with me to get exactly what I wanted. The team was friendly and very professional. I would highly recommend them!
Working with Chris and his team from MountainScapes was truly a pleasure building our pool this past year. Chris was a huge help working with the town on permitting and approvals (our town is notoriously difficult) and in helping us make our design dreams a reality.
...Today, one year post-completion, we are thrilled with the quality of MountainScapes' work. Chris, in particular, is something of a pool artist. It was truly worth it, but as homeowners you need to be prepared to be patient!
If you are considering an inground pool or any type of hardscape to your property, I would not recommend anyone other than Mountainscapes! Responsiveness, quality, professionalism!
Why Mountainscapes
With formal training in Landscape Architecture and over two decades spent building pools and gardens, Christopher Underwood looks at a Burlington yard as a whole. For older homes, that means a renovation plan that treats the pool, patio and planting as one design instead of separate patches.

Is it worth renovating an older pool in Burlington?
Often it is, if the structure is sound. Renovating can give you new surfaces, equipment and features for less than a new pool. Read renovation vs a new pool for the trade-offs, or see our pool renovation services.
How much does a pool or landscape project cost in Burlington?
It depends on whether you are renovating or building new, the features you add and the landscape work involved. Our full pool and landscape projects usually range from $50,000 to $150,000. A liner replacement, deck repair or lawn renewal costs much less.
What permits does a Burlington pool project need?
A new inground pool needs a building permit from the Town of Burlington, and pool barriers must follow the Massachusetts building code. Electrical work on a renovation is done by a licensed electrician under its own permit. Near wetlands or Vine Brook, the Burlington Conservation Commission may review the project under the Wetlands Protection Act.
Can you add a spa to my existing pool?
In many cases, yes. A spillover spa can be built beside an existing pool and tied into its plumbing and heating, ideally during a renovation when the deck is already being replaced. We check the existing pump, heater and layout first, and tell you if any of it needs upgrading to run a spa well.
Can you replace an old concrete patio?
Yes. We remove the old slab, fix the base and drainage underneath, and build a new patio in pavers or natural stone. Our guide to stone versus concrete patios compares costs and upkeep. Many Burlington slabs poured decades ago have settled toward the house, so we also correct the pitch so rain runs away from the foundation.
From initial planning and design to engineering, permitting, and construction, we manage every stage of your pool and landscape project with precision and care.
