Your Trusted Project Partner
Westford’s history in granite quarrying and apple growing still gives the town much of its character, from Graniteville and Forge Village to Nabnasset and Parker Village. Where a backyard slopes, holds rock or looks out toward Forge Pond or Nabnasset Pond, Mountainscapes designs pools and landscapes that work with that ground instead of fighting it, using retaining walls, stone steps and planting to create level, usable space. We take on full custom builds and modest jobs alike.
Shapes, depths, entry steps and ledges worked out on paper so the pool fits the house and the grade.
Sprayed concrete shells over steel rebar, which allow any shape and suit sloped or irregular sites.
Natural stone or sheer-descent waterfalls that use a change in grade to add sound and movement.
Digging for pools and foundations, including removal of boulders and rock that turn up below the surface.
Stone, block or boulder walls with drainage behind them, turning a slope into level terraces.
A whole-property plan for beds, paths, lighting and hardscape that can be built in stages.
Hardy trees and shrubs chosen for privacy screens, shade and color through New England seasons.
Grills, counters and storage placed near the pool or house, with gas and electric run safely.
It only takes 30 seconds.
Hear what our incredible customers have to say!
Chris installed a beautiful gunite pool for me. My kids love it and they cherish the day it gets opened. Chris did an amazing job designing the layout. He is a true artisan. I’ve been in business for 37 years and I’ve been around countless contractors. I highly recommend Mountainscapes.
I had the need for an emergency skimmer replacement during a pool deck replacement. Mountainscapes was the only company that got back to me and came right out and fixed things up to keep my project on schedule. Chris and his team were top notch. Highly recommended.
I have engaged Chris and his team on a number of landscape projects over the years. The pricing is good, the end result gorgeous, and Chris is always a pleasure to work with.
My experience having a pool installed was a great one! The owner Chris, worked with me to get exactly what I wanted. The team was friendly and very professional. I would highly recommend them!
Working with Chris and his team from MountainScapes was truly a pleasure building our pool this past year. Chris was a huge help working with the town on permitting and approvals (our town is notoriously difficult) and in helping us make our design dreams a reality.
...Today, one year post-completion, we are thrilled with the quality of MountainScapes' work. Chris, in particular, is something of a pool artist. It was truly worth it, but as homeowners you need to be prepared to be patient!
If you are considering an inground pool or any type of hardscape to your property, I would not recommend anyone other than Mountainscapes! Responsiveness, quality, professionalism!
Why Mountainscapes
Christopher Underwood earned his degree in Landscape Architecture and has over 20 years in landscape construction and pools. On a sloped or rocky Westford lot, that means the walls, grades and pool level are planned on paper first, which saves surprises once the excavator arrives.

Is gunite a good choice for a sloped Westford yard?
Gunite is often the best fit when a lot slopes or has an odd shape, because the shell is formed on site to any size or depth. It also pairs well with raised walls, spillover edges and waterfalls. Learn more about gunite pool installation.
What happens if you hit rock while digging a pool in Westford?
Buried boulders and ledge turn up in many parts of New England. We plan for that possibility at the design stage, remove what we can with the excavator and talk through options if heavier rock work is needed. Dig Safe is notified before any digging. See our excavation services.
How much does a custom pool cost in Westford?
Cost depends on pool type and size, features like waterfalls, and the walls or rock removal the site needs. Most of our full pool and landscape projects fall in the $50,000 to $150,000 range. A planting plan or small repair costs much less. Our pool cost guide breaks it down.
What approvals does a Westford pool need?
The Westford building department issues the pool permit, and the pool must meet the barrier and fencing rules in the Massachusetts building code. If your yard is near Forge Pond, Nabnasset Pond or another wetland area, the Westford Conservation Commission may review the work under the Wetlands Protection Act. We coordinate with engineers as needed.
Can you plant screening between my yard and the neighbors?
Yes. We choose evergreens and shrubs that handle New England winters and plant them in staggered rows for fuller cover. Placing them with the pool, patio and sun in mind keeps the screen from shading areas you want bright. See tree and shrub planting.
From initial planning and design to engineering, permitting, and construction, we manage every stage of your pool and landscape project with precision and care.
