Our pool waterfall installation services add a waterfall to a new or existing inground pool, built to look natural in your yard and sound the way you want. A waterfall pulls water from the pool, pumps it up to a basin or spillway and lets it fall back in. The craft is in the stonework and the hydraulics: rocks that look like they were always there, a footing that will not settle, a membrane behind the stone so water returns to the pool instead of soaking into the ground, and a pump that delivers steady flow. With a landscape architecture background, we place the waterfall where it reads well from the patio and the house. See all our pool water features for other options.
Photos from real pools and yards we have built. Notice how the stone ties into the walls, planting and patio around it. That connection is what makes a waterfall look natural rather than added on.
A poorly built waterfall is easy to spot: fake looking rocks, a weak trickle or a constant leak. Here is how we avoid each of those.
// Areas We Serve
We work with homeowners across northeastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. Pick your town to see local details, or ask us if yours is not listed.
We sketch the waterfall with the pool design, deciding width, height and where people will see and hear it. The footing goes in first, on compacted base, so the stone has a stable bed. Plumbing runs from the equipment pad to the top of the fall, with a valve so you can turn the flow up or down. We lay a membrane behind and under the rock work, then set the stones one at a time, running water over them and adjusting the lip stones until it falls cleanly. Mortar fills the hidden gaps so water goes over the rocks, not between them.
Why Us
A waterfall is half masonry and half pool plumbing. Our crews handle both, and the design starts from a landscape architecture point of view, so the feature fits the yard rather than fighting it.
Boulders and fieldstone stacked into a stepped cascade, often built into a slope or planting bed behind the pool.
A smooth, clear sheet of water that drops from a raised wall into the pool. Clean lines for modern designs.
Granite boulders, weathered fieldstone or cut stone, chosen to match walls, steps and coping elsewhere on the property.
A pump sized to the waterfall's width and height, plus a valve so you can dial the flow up or down.
A light tucked behind or below the falling water makes it glow after dark, wired by a licensed electrician.
Shrubs, grasses and perennials around the rock work soften the edges and help the waterfall blend into the yard.
Can pool waterfall installation be done on an existing pool?
Yes, in most cases. We run new plumbing from the equipment pad to the waterfall, which usually means opening a section of the deck. If you are already planning new decking or coping, that is the ideal time. We also check whether your current pump can supply it or whether a separate one makes more sense.
How loud is a pool waterfall?
That is up to you. Sound depends mostly on how much water flows over and how far it falls. A short drop onto stone is soft, while a taller drop straight into the pool is louder. With a valve on the line, you can turn it down for quiet evenings.
Should I choose natural rock or a sheer descent?
Natural rock suits informal yards, slopes and planted borders. A sheer descent fits clean, modern pools and raised walls. Both work with gunite pools, and on fiberglass and vinyl liner pools the waterfall is usually built just outside the pool edge. Our pool design process covers this choice.
Is it safe to jump or slide off a pool waterfall?
Only if the waterfall was designed for it and the water below is deep enough. Most waterfalls are decorative, with stones that are not meant to be climbed. If jumping is part of your plans, tell us early so the depth and stone placement are designed around it.
Does a waterfall need special care in winter?
The waterfall line has to be drained and protected along with the rest of the pool plumbing before freezing weather, because water left in pipes can freeze and crack them. Our pool closing service handles the waterfall line too.
Do waterfalls cause algae or stains on the rocks?
Wet stone can grow algae or show mineral deposits if water chemistry drifts. Good circulation and balanced water keep it in check, and an occasional scrub keeps the rocks clean. Our pool maintenance visits can include the waterfall.
